Release 10.1A: OpenEdge Getting Started:
Installation and Configuration
OpenEdge Unified Broker administration framework
OpenEdge integrates all management functions for Unified Brokers in a single administration framework. Figure 11–1 shows an overview of this framework.
Note: In Figure 11–1, the Unified Broker client element represents command-line utilities. For example, the ASBMAN configuration utility and the ASCONFIG validation are both command-line utilities you can use for an AppServer. For more information about command-line utilities, see the "Command-line utilities reference" section.Figure 11–1: OpenEdge Unified Broker administration framework

Figure 11–1 shows all the Unified Broker components running on the same machine. You can install some of these components on separate machines connected on the same network. In that case, a separate AdminServer and
ubroker.propertiesfile exists on each machine for access by the Progress Explorer. For more information, see the "Distributing machines for a Unified Broker product" section. The core of this framework is a common process, the AdminServer process, for managing what are referred to as the Unified Broker products: AppServer, WebSpeed, OpenEdge Adapter for SonicMQ, and DataServer products. The AdminServer supports the Progress Explorer and management utilities to provide similar configuration and management functions for all of these products.
Complete administration for a Unified Broker application potentially involves all of the components in Figure 11–1. However, for some components and administration tasks you can use AdminServer-based management utilities (including the Progress Explorer) or a text editor and configuration validation utilities to accomplish the task; for others you can only use the AdminServer-based utilities. Table 11–1 summarizes the components and possible administration approaches.
